Interview with Jolly Wong, VP/CPO – Club Been:
 
“Before the pandemic, China experienced a peak period where professionals across all industries benefited significantly from the times. During that period, clubs had clear labels and positioning regarding their music attributes, with at least three large EDM clubs flourishing simultaneously in major cities.

After the pandemic, the decline in consumer spending power led to drastic changes in China’s nightlife market. Large clubs gradually disappeared, replaced by low-cost, lightly operated small clubs and live houses. As a team that had previously created world-class clubs, we proposed a series of bold ideas to LIVE LEGENDS during the initial concept development of BEEN, based on the current state of the Chinese market. We continued to invest heavily in this new product, aiming to bring the world’s top technology and the best electronic music atmosphere back to China while hoping to one day take a Chinese club brand to the world stage.


We needed to consider how to introduce electronic music, a universal language, back into China’s nightlife while meeting the demands of the current market under highly unstable conditions. The LIVE LEGENDS team ingeniously solved this problem with a “CUBE.” They compared the CUBE to a surprise box, and we adopted this as the defining label for our product in our marketing efforts. By transforming stage designs, we unlocked new ways to use the venue, dividing it into day and night time dimensions, allowing us to host a diverse range of content around the clock. At night, its basic form is a NIGHT CLUB, accommodating performances by DJs, rappers, and bands. During the day, it can host fashion shows, art exhibitions, business events, and e-sports games, seamlessly switching between different uses.

Since its opening, BEEN has received widespread acclaim from industry professionals and electronic music enthusiasts both domestically and internationally, quickly gaining fame in China. We foresee that BEEN will have a positive impact and lead the way in China’s nightlife industry, becoming a new benchmark. We are honored to once again collaborate with LIVE LEGENDS and ROBE to complete such a monumental challenge, confident that this meticulously crafted work will withstand the test of time and market.”.
